The holiday season is a time for connecting with your loved ones; to recharge our batteries and take the time to appreciate one another. Family, friends and feasts are at the heart of the festivities, but other fun activities can help you relax from holiday stress. From playing games to charity work, here’s ten activities that’ll get the whole family in the holiday spirit.
Toss a Jingle Bell
Keep your guests amused with this reindeer game: Toss The Jingle Bell. Place some holiday themed cups in the center of the table, then grab a set of jingle bells. Each participant then takes a turn trying to toss bells into each of the cups. The person to toss a bell into every cup the fastest wins.
If you want to increase the difficulty, have your guests stand further away from the table. To protect the table from any spills, adorn it with a nice table cover that doubles as decor for holiday dining.
Pinecone Bird Feeder
After sprucing your backyard with custom covers for the season, how about livening it up with the sound of singing birds? Get your kids in on the fun by making Pinecone Bird Feeders.
First, gather all the kids up for a pinecone hunt. Ask each person to run out and gather pine cones from around the yard. Then, have them coat each individual pinecone in peanut butter. Once they’re sticky, roll the buttered up pinecones in bird seeds, and hang them on the trees in your yard. Soon enough, you’ll have plenty of birds pecking away.
Rudolph Relay Race
As your family and friends enjoy scrumptious food outdoors, double up on the fun with a Rudolph relay race.
First, divide your guests into teams. Then, set up half of each team on a line, right beside a grill you’ve decorated with a weatherproof grill cover. Across, place the remaining team members in another line across the yard. Then, hand a stuffed Rudolph toy to each team.
On the count of three, have participants race to the other side while balancing their Rudolph on their heads. Once the participant reaches the other side, they must pass the Rudolf to another member of the team, who’ll run back to the original side. The first team to get through every member wins.
Christmas Cookie Decoration Contest
You can’t have Christmas without some delectable, decorative Christmas cookies. Try turning this activity into a contest and vote to see who got the most creative decorating their home-baked goodies. Reward the winner with an extra bag of candy. This activity can also work with making gingerbread houses.
Donation Drives
Winter is the season of giving. If you want to spread cheer and extend a helping hand to those in need, take the time to organize a donation drive for charity, gathering coats, canned goods, or other items for the needy.
If organizing a donation drive isn’t an option, try volunteering for a local charity, such as a soup kitchen or animal shelter. Giving back to the community teaches empathy and kindness to your children, and is a fun way to bring the whole family together.
Fun in the Snow
Enjoy the snowy landscape by engaging in fun snow activities. Snowball fights, making snowmen, and building snow forts are great ways to put the snow on your porch to good use. Of course, make sure to weatherproof your patio beforehand with custom covers to enjoy the recreational activities worry free.
Hold Sled Races
If you want to sweat off the post-dinner slump, you should hold a holiday sled race. Have your guests bring their sleds to your event, then line everyone up at the top of a hill. Make sure everyone is a safe distance apart to prevent a mid race crash. On the count of three, have everyone slide down. The first one to the bottom wins!
Roast Marshmallows by the Firepit
There’s nothing better than roasting marshmallows and chestnuts together with family and friends. For some outdoor cheer, have your friends and family sit around your fire pit and roast in the roaring blaze. Make the event nice and cozy with soft pillows and throws, or with a custom TV cover, hold a Christmas movie marathon.
Christmas Movie Bingo
Turn your Hallmark movie marathon into a fun family activity with Christmas Movie Bingo. To begin, download a printable holiday movie bingo sheet for each of your guests. As you watch, have the participants mark off the items on the sheet that they see in the movie. The first person to complete an entire row wins an extra round of hot chocolate!
Reindeer Charades
If you want to put your TV on rest – hold a round of Reindeer Charades. On small slips of paper, write down a series of phrases related to the holiday season. Put the pieces of paper in a jar, then divide your guests in two teams. Have each of your guests draw from the jar, and act out the phrase without speaking. Whoever guesses it right wins the round!
